Manchester United Stars Chasing Trophies
With the United players now back in Manchester following Tour 2015, presented by Aon, the focus has already shifted towards the start of the new season. We asked several of the Reds' key men what fans can expect from Louis van Gaal's side once the Barclays Premier League campaign is under way...
Daley Blind: "I think we are going to play attacking football, also we are going to win a lot of games and, when we are ahead, we have to kill those games and make sure that we get the three points in the important matches. Also, we must do that when we are playing at an away ground, where it is sometimes difficult. I think we have a great group, a great team and I think we are going to play attacking football."
Phil Jones: "It's been great to welcome the new lads the manager has signed. They're getting on really well and settling in nicely so, hopefully, they can make an impression this season. It's an important campaign for us and I hope we can hit the ground running in the way we finished the last one."
Wayne Rooney: "It’s an exciting time for the team. We’ve had new players come in, quality players, and we feel they can give us an extra gear to what we had last season. Obviously, the lads who have been here understand how the manager wants us to work. For the first couple of months, it was probably a bit difficult to take everything in and go out and perform, but we fully understand what he wants and, now we’ve added a few players, it’s exciting. I feel we have the right squad in terms of hoping to be successful this season."
Bastian Schweinsteiger: "I have to say the quality is huge. I am sure, with this team, it is possible to win titles and, even after a week, I can say that. We have a good defence, we have good defensive players, and we have quality players who can make the difference in high-level matches. I think this team has a lot of possibilities and quality."
Luke Shaw: "As a team, we do talk about challenging for honours, but not too much because it is the start of the season. But with the signings that we have made and the signings that could still be coming in, I think the squad is going to be very strong and positive, and I think we can win a couple of trophies this season."
Chris Smalling: "I feel the fans can expect to see a team that shows a lot more consistency and, especially with our additions, I think we will see a big goal threat in a successful season. Everyone is very confident of building on last season."
